es kommt ganz darauf an, ob die Umgebungsvariable nur für dich oder
für alle Benutzer greifen soll, auch welche Shell du benutzt spielt hier eine
Rolle.
Wenn die UV für alle Benutzer unterschiedlicher Shells greifen soll, dann
schreib es nach /etc/profile. Wenn du weißt, dass alle Benutzer eine Bash
nutzen, dann kannst du es auch nach /etc/bash.bashrc schreiben. Wenn
die UV allerdings nur für dich aktiv sein soll, dann schreib sie entweder in
die .profile oder .bashrc in deinem Heimatverzeichnis. Hier gilt das Gleiche
mit den Shells.
Je nach Distro können die Dateien anders heißen. Zum Beispiel unter
/etc/profile.d (siehe Betterworld) oder auch /etc/bashrc heißen.
