Das sniffen des Inhalts ist doch eine ganz andere Sache als die Frage, ob ein Browser einen Inhalt anzeigt oder zum Download anbietet.
Wenn das miteinander zu tun hätte, hätte ich ja bei jedem Image das Problem, wie ich dem Browser sage, ob er das jetzt gerade anzeigen oder downloaden soll.

Ich finde, dass die von dir bisher zitierten Artikel nicht den Schluß zulassen, dass application/octet-stream immer zwingend zu einem Download führen muss.
Das ist in meinen Augen ein separates Thema, was eben mit diesem Content-Disposition zu lösen ist.

Oder wo liegt jetzt mein Denkfehler?
